Personality: Rose was a resourceful, brave and kind-hearted woman with a great sense of humour. She was quick to adapt to strange events. She had her mother's acerbic wit and was not hesitant to use it. Rose fell easily into the role of the Doctor's latest companion and was brave facing various alien threats. She cared deeply about the Doctor, although she originally denied any romantic feelings towards him despite indications to the contrary. In what seemed their final meeting on the beach, she told the Doctor that she loved him; he began to reply, but only got out the words, "Rose Tyler", before he was cut off.
Rose was anti-racist, willing to treat aliens as equals. Rose proved capable of great forgiveness and mercy, willing to forgive people even after what they did. Of course, she was easily willing to kill if she had to. Rose was willing to call the Doctor out when he was wrong. When the Doctor brushed aside the danger that Jackie was in when faced with a Slitheen, Rose reminded him the woman he was discussing was her mother. She was horrified the Doctor would allow the Gelth to use human corpses as a vessel for their consciousness. The Doctor's failure to listen to Rose's human plea of respect for their dead led to at least two deaths when the Gelth proved to be malicious.
Appearance: Rose stands 5'5" tall, weighs between 115-120 pounds. She has long blonde hair and hazel-brown eyes. She typically wears jeans a shirt, but can sometimes be seen in a mini skirt of sorts. She always wears a charm bracelet that John gave her, with 11 charms on it (one for every adventure Sarah and her had gone on) - the most prominent, however, being a TARDIS he had made custom made for her; it had been an engagement gift.

History: Rose Marion Tyler was born to Jackie and Pete Tyler on 27 April 1987. She attended Jericho Street Junior School and Jericho Street Comprehensive, where she joined the gymnastics team, and won a bronze medal in competition. She performed decently in her GCSEs (one A, two Bs, four Cs and a D in science) and planned to do A-Levels (in English, French and Art). However, she left school to pursue a romantic relationship with local Jimmy Stone, which ended badly. Several times in her childhood, she was visited and watched over by her future friend, Captain Jack Harkness, who had been temporally displaced by a fault on his vortex manipulator. Jack did not say hello to avoid damaging the timeline. When Rose was in her late teens, she and her mother, Jackie, were living in the Powell Estate (Flat 48, Bucknall House, Powell Estate, London, SE15 7G0) in South London. Rose worked as a shop assistant at Henrik's Department Store in London's Regent Street, while Jackie worked from home as a hairdresser. Before she met the Doctor, Rose's only travelling experience was a school trip to France and an annual week's holiday to South Wales with her mother. She entered into a relationship with Mickey Smith some time before 2005. At one point, she was asked by Mickey's friend Vic to pose for his photography. However, as he wanted he to pose in just her knickers, Rose declined. Her first encounter with the mysterious time-traveller known as the Doctor happened just after midnight on 1 January, 2005. Whilst walking home with her mother, Rose stumbled into the Tenth Doctor who was dying from radiation poisoning. Mistaking him for a drunk, she asked if he was all right, and told him the date when he asked. The Doctor told her that 2005 was going to be a good year for her. Smiling, Rose continued home.
Rose met the Doctor again later on 4 March 2005, early in his ninth incarnation, when he saved her from an attack of Autons in Henrik's. After she returned home, she searched on the Internet for information about this strange man and found Clive Finch, who had been keeping track of the Doctor's appearances on Earth. Rose helped the Doctor track down the Nestene Consciousness animating the Autons and, when he was being held by two of the Autons, used her gymnastic skill to set him free. The Earth saved, the Doctor invited Rose to travel with him. Initially, she refused, and the Doctor left, only to return a few moments later to mention the TARDIS had the ability to travel through time. Given this second chance, Rose joined him in the TARDIS, giving her boyfriend a kiss and leaving him and her mother behind on Earth. The Doctor modified her mobile phone to be able to communicate across time and space, among other functions. In her first trip with the Doctor, Rose witnessed the final destruction of Earth. There, Rose met the last "human", Lady Cassandra. However, Rose angered Cassandra by telling her how she's (technicaly, via time travel) the last human and was nearly roasted alive. After Cassandra was foile/killed by the Doctor, Rose was taken back to 2005 to have chips. The Doctor next toke Rose to Cardiff by mistake, where she met Charles Dickens, who helped them stop the Gelth from escaping the rift and killing everyone to obtain new bodies. Rose learned a bit about how time can change during this adventure from the Doctor; this is when the Gelth seemed harmless and wished for a few bodies, confusing her as they weren't around in the future. Per her request, Rose was taken home. However, instead of 12 hours later as the Doctor promised, Rose found she had been missing for an entire year; Mickey had been getting blamed by Jackie for her disappearance. Once Rose calmed her mother, she was shocked when an alien spacecraft crashed throuh Big Ben and into the Thames. When the Doctor suspected something fishy was occurring, Rose accompanied him to Downing Street, where she met Harriet Jones and discovered the Slitheen. She then helped the Doctor stop the Slitheen from reducing the Earth to a nuclear husk to be sold for profit by blowing up Downing Street with a missile. Much to her shock, Rose learned Harriet would become Prime Minister for three successful terms for London's "Golden Age". Packing some belongings to continue traveling with the Doctor, Rose promised her mother that the next time she'd see them, it would be ten seconds later (Unknown to Rose, however, she did not return as she said she would). When the Doctor traced a distress signal to 2012 and landed in the Vault, Rose met a Dalek for the first time. Much to her surprise, as it rampaged and killed, trying to get out, the Dalek began changing from the DNA it absorbed from her along with radiation from the Time Vortex, developing emotions like pity. As it was unable to cope with emotions, the Dalek had her order its death.... which she only did to put it out of its misery. During this time, Rose met Adam Mitchell, genius she found attractive and had the Doctor take along as a fellow companion. Rose was next taken the Fourth Great and Bountiful Human Empire, where she was told history had gone wrong; humanity was supposed to at the peak of perfection, but the technology is backwards. While investigating with the Doctor, Rose found the planet was being controlled by an alien called the Jagrafess, who had been manipulating the information humanity received. Defeating it, Rose found Adam had taken advantage of time travel and tried exploiting foreknowledge. Along with the Doctor, Rose kicked him out of the TARDIS. The Doctor also took Rose to 1987 to witness the last minutes of her father's life. This had drastic consequences. Rose prevented his death, altered history and unleashed Reapers. After confirming her identity to her father, Rose let him get hit by a car to save everyone; she stayed with him until he passed. She also met herself as an infant, as well as a very young Mickey Smith. In World War II London, the Doctor and Rose met Captain Jack Harkness, a former Time Agent from the 51st century, to whom she was also attracted. The Doctor and Rose took him along in the TARDIS. She also learned humanity is more loose about "dancing" in Jack's time because of the different species they can breed with. On a refueling trip to Cardiff, Rose was taken hostage by Blon-fetch Slitheen, a survivor of their last encounter. After the for looked into the TARDIS's heart and was regressed back into an egg, Rose left Mickey behind to start a new relationship with someone else; she no longer felt attracted to him, only seeing Mickey as a close friend because of her time with the Doctor. Throughout their travels, the phrase "Bad Wolf" followed the Doctor and Rose around through space and time. Following his discovery of a complex plan by the Daleks to invade Earth in the year 200,100, the Doctor, believing he might die soon, sent Rose out of harm's way to her home place and time. Seeing the words Bad Wolf as graffiti around her housing complex served as a message to Rose; she herself was crucial to the event and must return to the Doctor. Rose broke into the TARDIS and looked into its heart which enabled her to transcend into the Bad Wolf. As this goddess-like figure, she vaporised the Dalek fleet and brought Captain Jack back to life (unknowingly making him immortal), after paradoxically spreading the words 'Bad Wolf' through space and time to create the message. However, in becoming the Bad Wolf, Rose had absorbed the Time Vortex into herself, which would destroy her body, cell by cell. The Doctor took those energies into himself by kissing her, sacrificing his ninth incarnation and regenerating before Rose's eyes into a new form.
The newly regenerated Doctor managed to steer the TARDIS back to the Powell Estate on Christmas Eve 2006, before collapsing from post-regenerative trauma. Rose was distressed that the Doctor had changed in appearance and personality, (DW: Children in Need Special) and had apparently left Rose, Mickey and Jackie to face the Sycorax invasion alone. When the TARDIS was taken aboard the Sycorax spaceship, Rose attempted to negotiate with them, but the Sycorax leader just laughed. The Doctor later revived and defeated the Sycorax. He celebrated Christmas with Rose's family. The Doctor took Rose to New New York on New Earth in the year 5,000,000,023, where she was unwillingly showered in disinfectant while taking a lift up through the hospital. Lady Cassandra took control of the lift and used a psychograft to implant her consciousness onto Rose's own, gaining full control over her body, but eventually went into the dying body of Chip once she helped the Doctor cure the infected new humans. The Doctor and Rose, dressed for 1979 Sheffield, landed in 1879 Scotland. The Doctor became a protectorate for Queen Victoria, who was targeted by the Brethren. They stayed at Torchwood House, where the Brethren wanted to place the bite of the Lupine Wavelength Haemovariform into Queen Victoria to put the wolf on the British throne. Rose and several of the house's staff were taken to be fed to this werewolf, but Rose co-ordinated their escape. After the Doctor used the Koh-i-Noor and the house's light chamber to destroy the wolf with moonlight, the Doctor and Rose were knighted (with Rose dubbed Dame Rose of the Powell Estate), but immediately banished as a threat to the British Empire. This incident prompted Queen Victoria to found the Torchwood Institute to address future alien threats — including the Doctor. In 2007, Mickey brought the Doctor and Rose to Deffry Vale High School, which had had suspiciously high exam results and UFO sightings. Rose went undercover as a dinner lady. She had been eating the school's chips that were coated in an intelligence-increasing oil. She discovered one of the dinner ladies had been burned by these chips. While investigating the school, Rose met a previous companion of the Doctor, Sarah Jane Smith, an awkward situation Mickey described as "the missus and the ex". Both women felt jealousy and tension, which they subsequently resolved. Rose became worried the Doctor would one day abandon her, but the Doctor promised her — "Not to you". The Doctor repaired K9 Mark III, who identified the oil as Krillitane oil and the school's new staff as Krillitanes. The Krillitanes were using the children's minds to construct the Skasis Paradigm, a computation that could rebuild the fabric of the universe. K9 destroyed the Krillitanes by blowing up the lethal oil barrels. Mickey joined the TARDIS, to Rose's disapproval. On the SS Madame de Pompadour in the 51st century, the Doctor, Rose and Mickey travelled into a time window to 1744 France. She discovered the ship's repair droids had been using the ship's crew as components to repair the ship. Their final "part" was the brain of Reinette Poisson, who wasn't yet "complete". When the droids found the Reinette at the correct part of her life, Rose travelled through a time window into 1753 to warn her of an oncoming attack some time after her 37th birthday in 1758, explaining to Reinette that this wasn't how history was supposed to happen. Rose showed signs of jealousy when the Doctor was attracted to Reinette. The Doctor exploited this jealousy to save her life when her mind was invaded by a creature called the Iagnon. Around this time, Rose died in the 31st century during an incident with a time loop, but was immediately resurrected when the time loop reset itself. On a parallel version of Earth later called "Pete's World" after Pete Tyler, Rose met a version of her father, this Earth's "namesake". He had not died, but had become a successful businessman. In this parallel universe, Pete and Jackie Tyler never had a daughter named Rose. They did, however, have a dog with the same name. Mickey left the TARDIS to live a new life on Pete's World fighting the Cybermen there and caring for his grandmother, who had died in his home universe from a fall. After returning to Rose's home universe, the Doctor and Rose arrived in Muswell Hill, London, on the eve of Queen Elizabeth II's coronation in 1953. There, the duo faced an enemy known as the Wire which planned to steal faces from everyone in London via television sets, to gain energy to feed and survive. During this time Rose became a victim of the Wire and lost her face. The Doctor was able to save her by transferring the Wire into a betamax cassette tape. There was a difficult discussion about settling down after seemingly losing the TARDIS. After they got back the TARDIS, Rose and the Doctor defeated the Hoix, then watched as LINDA defeated the Abzorbaloff when he tried to absorb the Doctor. They next travelled to attend the 2012 Olympic Games, where the Doctor seemed pleased when Rose asked for him to hold her hand. Meanwhile they investigated the disappearances of children taken by the Isolus. The Doctor himself was taken but freed when Rose recharged the Isolus pod. During the battle of Canary Wharf in the Torchwood Institute, Rose refused to leave the Doctor to face the threat on his own. She nearly sacrificed herself to make sure that every Dalek and Cyberman were sucked into the Void. Due to a timely rescue by Pete Tyler from Pete's World, Rose was alive, but was separated from the Doctor, seemingly forever. Rose lived with Pete Tyler, Jackie, and Mickey in their home on Pete's World. She received a dream-like contact from the Doctor, which guided her to Dårlig Ulv Stranden (Bad Wolf Bay) beach in Norway. The Doctor sent his last farewells through the closing gaps between the worlds, burning up a star to send the signal through. He informed her that on her Earth, Rose was officially dead. Rose informed the Doctor that she now worked for Torchwood in this alternative world, and that Jackie was again pregnant. Rose finally broke down and confessed her love for the Doctor, but the Doctor did not have a chance to reciprocate his feelings as he was cut off abruptly. Some time later, Jackie gave birth to Rose's baby brother, Tony.
As Davros' reality bomb weakened the barriers between universes, Rose used a dimension cannon to find either the Doctor or Donna Noble and warn them about the oncoming darkness. In 2009, after preventing a million Londoners from being forcibly converted into Adipose, Donna asked Rose to tell Donna's mother Sylvia that Donna left her car keys in "that bin there". Rose walked off, fading away. When the Doctor and Donna were conversing with two psychics in 79 AD Pompeii, one of them noted, "She is returning," a foreshadowing of Rose's return. When Donna Noble was in the TARDIS during the Sontaran invasion, Rose's face popped up on the screen for a moment, silently calling for the Doctor. On the planet Midnight, Rose appeared on a screen in the Crusader 50 shuttlebus, silently shouting, "Doctor!" It was not clear if anyone on the bus noticed. When Donna Noble had an alternate timeline created around her, Rose met her several times. She said she could travel between worlds and alternate timelines, and had done so many times, searching for the Doctor. She appeared several times in this timeline, including on Christmas Eve 2007, when the Doctor, lacking Donna to pull him back, was killed defeating the Racnoss. In 2008, the night Donna was sacked by Jival Chowdry, she told Donna to use her raffle ticket to stay out of London that Christmas, which was when London was scheduled for attack by the Titanic. Donna and Rose also met the evening the Sontaran attack of the Earth with ATMOS was thwarted by Torchwood Three at the cost of their lives. Three weeks later as the stars started to disappear, Donna followed Rose, who revealed the Time Beetle on Donna's back and explained what she must do to restore the original timeline. Obeying Rose's instructions, Donna was sent back to force her past self to turn left, not right, on that fateful day in June 2007, so that she would work at H.C. Clements and meet the Doctor six months later. When Donna did so, at the cost of her life in that timeline, Rose held her as she died and whispered a message for the Doctor: Bad Wolf.
In 2009, Rose teleported to her native world, finding it being invaded by Daleks and transported across the universe. She found Sylvia and Donna's grandfather Wilf, hoping they knew where the Doctor and Donna were. Harriet Jones appeared on Wilf's computer. Rose assumed Harriet was trying to contact her, but when she tried to reply, found it impossible as there was no camera or microphone on the computer; Harriet spoke to Sarah Jane, Jack and Martha Jones. Rose watched on as they brought the Doctor to Earth, then used her transmat device to lock onto the TARDIS and teleport to him. She arrived in a deserted street with the Doctor and Donna at the other end. The Doctor and Rose ran towards each other, but a Dalek fired upon the Doctor, mortally wounding him. With Donna and Jack's help, she got him in to the TARDIS where he began to regenerate. The Doctor managed to retain his tenth form by pouring the regeneration energy into his severed hand. This, with the help of Donna, eventually created a new, part-human Doctor. After Donna and the newly-created Meta-Crisis Tenth Doctor defeated the New Dalek Empire, the Doctor returned her to the parallel Earth along with her mother but this time without Mickey, who decided to return home. The original Doctor exiled the new Doctor on the parallel Earth; he was bred in battle, killing all the Daleks, and too dangerous to leave on his own. He told Rose she was the only one who could make him a better man, as she had before with him. Rose was reluctant to stay back but the original Doctor said that the new Doctor had all his memories and thoughts, and was "him," albeit part human. The part-human Doctor had only one heart, would age, and would never regenerate. He told her he could spend his life with her, if she wanted him to, and they could grow old together. Rose asked both Doctors what the last thing they would have said to her would have been when she was first trapped on the parallel Earth. The original Doctor asked, "Does it need saying?", but the Meta-Crisis Tenth Doctor whispered something to her. Hearing the words, Rose flung herself on the Meta-Crisis Doctor and the original Doctor left with Donna.
Eventually, she married the clone (who had taken the name John Smith and became John Tyler after they married). However, her tragedy was far from over. In 2010, the pair married and went on their honeymoon – hiking in the Congo rainforest. While there, John became ill with what they thought were simple flu like symptoms, so they went to a nearby hospital, where John was finally diagnosed with Ebola Zaire. She watched him die, through a thick glass window. It wasn’t until after the quarantine was over, and she was back at home with her parents, she found she was pregnant. Months later she gave birth to a bouncing baby girl aptly naming her Sarah Jane Tyler, who just so happened to look like her daddy. As Sarah grew, so did the TARDIS. By the time Sarah was 6 years old, she knew how to operate the TARDIS, though with help; on Sarah's 8th birthday (which happened to fall on the anniversary of the day she'd been trapped in Pete's World with John), they went someplace that was supposed to be special. However, the they were knocked into a parallel universe - she didn't realize what universe it truly was. Upon their arrival, on the unknown planet, Rose was deemed a witch, Sarah was kidnapped and her TARDIS was about to be destroyed. When Rose escaped prison, thanks to a sympathetic rogue, she immediately went to save her daughter. On the way she got cut by a guard's knife, tipped in poison. She made it to the Queen's throne room, only to realize her daughter's memories had been wiped and her growth had been accelerated - Sarah was now a woman of 18 years, instead of the 8 year old she had been when they had arrived. It was also revealed that the sympathetic rogue, who had saved her earlier, was none other than the princess of that world and she had walked right into a trap. The poison taking a hold, she was taken to a medical bay where they could watch how she died however, regretting what she had done, the Princess relieved the guards guarding Rose and administered the antidote, just before Rose perished. Weakened, she went in search of her daughter and her stolen TARDIS, with the Princess at her side - she found the TARDIS first but it was already destroyed. The women were caught by the Queen and her guards; by this time, the Queen's spell on Sarah began to falter, and Sarah arrived too. Just when all hope seemed to be lost, and the Princess and Rose were going to be executed right there on the spot, Sarah jumped in and fought against the Queen. In the end, Sarah was shot by the Queen's energy weapon and injured. In a fit of rage, Rose overpowered the Queen. The Princess, never having believed in the Queen's methods, was revealed to be another person entirely - she, just like Sarah, had been kidnapped and brainwashed to be the Queen's Princess. Calica (the Princess) imprisoned the Queen and worked to heal Sarah. Rose stayed until Sarah was healed, but reversing the advanced growth was impossible. When Sarah awoke, she had no memory of Rose or who she was, nor what had happened.Calica gave her a small handheld device and told her to hang onto it, saying it would bring her back whenever she wanted. Yet, when Calica put her hand on Rose’s forehead, Sarah cried out, “Mom,” and looked at directly at her. Rose locked gazes with her daughter, her last thought being, how much she looked like her father. Then, everything was gone – When she awoke she found herself just outside of Cardiff, Wales.
Role Play Sample: (From RP.me, my Firestarter account. Sorry, I didn't get around to actually writing with my Rose Tyler on her rp.me account.)
The 24th century: by this point in history, humans had ultimately moved past religion as a driving force in their belief. They had suffered World War III, which led to First Contact with the Vulcans; they had warp-capable spaceships, deep space stations, transporters, replicators, holodecks, time-travel capabilities learned from the 29th century. They had phasers, torpedoes, photons and deflector dishes. With all of these things able to take them out into space, having the ability to see new races & worlds; the human race’s belief upon Gods, Angels and Demons faded, and with it their power. The same thing had happened with urban legends, and old wives tales-they went the way of the dinosaurs. So, the idea that nearly 400 years ago, the world had been staring the Apocalypse down was a preposterous one; there was no scientific proof, or record, showing that anything had happened-save for the arbitrary assertion that ‘so-and-so’ was there. In the year 2384, all talk of that had faded to barely a whine, as the human race focused primarily on going “where no one has gone before.”
The Stardate was 2384.623 (June 23, 2384) and she was aboard the United Federation of Planets starship: USS Voyager NCC-74656. She had been born on this very same vessel, just 72 days prior, and had already seen her fair share of terror. She’d been captured by the Borg; she’d been to the year 2066, where she’d met the woman she’d been named after. When she had gotten back to her present, she’d changed; she was short tempered, angry and didn’t hesitate to get into a fight. Even those she wasn’t close with noticed the change within her psyche.
Rose yawned as she stretched out on her bed, she held the PADD in one hand as she rolled over, her head landing on her pillow. Setting the PADD down beside her, she stared at the ceiling. She’d been going over medical procedure, for her oral exam later this afternoon; she liked medicine, and the EMH, but she just couldn’t focus on it today. She wanted something different; something adventurous; something-dangerous. She yawned again as her back arched upward then fell flat with the bed. Rolling over, she rolled off the bed and into a standing position.
She made her way to the bathroom, where she pulled out a towel and started up the sonic shower; once it was ready, she stripped out of uniform and stepped in. Minutes went by then she stepped out with a deep sigh; she’d read that in the old days they used water to bathe-she’d have to try it on her next trip to the holodeck. Picking up her dirty clothes, she dropped them in a bin then went and pulled out a fresh set from her dresser and put it on. She didn’t wear the same type of uniform as everyone else; where the others had colored shoulders, hers were black and she didn’t have any ranking pips on her collar either. Instead she picked her commbadge up from the dresser top and pinned it over her left breast. Once she was fully clothed, with her boots on, she stood up and the ship rocked.
“Everyone to battle stations!” Her father’s voice said over the shipwide comm. system.
She groaned inwardly as the red alert began blaring. Stepping out of her quarters she made a dash for the turbolift, where she tugged at her uniform’s jacket and spoke to the computer, “bridge.” The computer complied and she rode the lift to the bridge. When it stopped she stepped out to see everyone she knew. Her father, Captain Chakotay, looked up at her and shook his head; he hated that she’d come to the bridge during a battle, but he didn’t tell her to leave either. “What’s happening?” she asked him as she moved around the divider railing and stepped up to the side of his chair.
“The Borg,” he replied, more than a little aggravated.
“What else is new…” she muttered as she shook her head. The turbolift doors opened again and her mother, Annika, stepped out and took her station. Mother and daughter’s eyes met, sharing the same apprehensive expression. Everyone on the ship knew the Borg too well, especially since her mother was a former drone, and the Queen seemed fascinated with both mother and daughter.
“Captain,” Tuvok said, “we’re being hailed.”
“On screen,” her father replied.
“We are the Borg. You will be assimilated. Resistance is futile.” Came the multitude of Borg voices over the comm. system; it filled everyone’s ears on the bridge. Rose could sense the anxiety of everyone aboard Voyager, as the visual on the viewscreen switched from the vast interior of the Borg sphere, to a singular face-a Borg Queen. “Ah, Captain Chakotay, so we meet again.” The Queen’s voice was low and seductive, but her eyes showed her hatred and patience.
“You will leave Federation space.” Her father demanded as he stepped forward, “now, before I lose my temper.”
The Queen lifted a brow and laughed. “You have no power over us, Chakotay. We are dominant. We are superior to you in every way. We are perfection. If you will not join us willingly…”
“Why?” Rose asked, nearly shouting at her. “You’re nothing but a disease among the stars; a walking, talking disease.” A few chuckles were overheard as she finished her last line, mostly from Harry and Tom; the Queen just looked pissed.
Her eyes narrowed as her face inched closer towards the screen. Rose felt herself trying to shrink away as the Queen looked to her side, “fire and continue firing till the ship is destroyed!”
“Very well,” my father said, “if you won’t leave then we’ll just have to force you. Harry! Close the link!” The viewscreen shut down just as the Queen was about to remark back. “Tom, do your thing.”
“Aye, sir,” Tom began evasive maneuvers; the red alert was blaring, as the blasts from the Borg sheer shook Voyager violently.
“Captain,” Tuvok said, “our shields are down to 69%...50%...38%...”
“Divert all nonessential power to the shields!” Her father moved briskly as he made his way back to his chair. “Harry, get Admiral Paris on the comm…”
Tuvok interrupted, “shields are down to 9.8%.” Chakotay glanced back over at Tuvok, a thin line where his mouth was. “Shields are down sir,” Tuvok stated, looking at her father.
“Everybody,” my father said as he gripped the arms of his chair, “hang on!”
The ship was hit again, only this time there were explosions throughout the ship. A loud explosion occurred on the Bridge and Rose ducked in response. When she looked up, she saw her mother on the floor, her head bleeding. “Mom!” Rose’s voice cracked with the scream of fear and her father was suddenly at their side, kneeling over Annika.
“Hull breaches on decks 3, 7 and 13.”
Backing away, Rose looked over at the Ops console, only to see a hand sticking out from behind it. “Harry?” She ran to the console, struggling to keep her balance on the rocking ship and green eyes stared down at Harry’s bleeding, unconscious form. “HARRY!” She fell at his side, cradling his head in her lap as she slapped the commbadge on her chest, “Rose to Sickbay! We need an emergency transport now! Lock onto Harry’s biosign and beam him directly to Sickbay!” In a moment, Harry’s body was dematerializing from her arms and she was turning to see Chakotay helping Annika to her feet.
“Rose, take your mother down to Sickbay. I’ll be there as soon as possible.” Rose nodded to her father as she placed one of Annika’s arms around her shoulders.
A singular look passed between her father and her at that moment, a look of fear and worry, then she was stepping onto the turbolift. “Deck 5,” Rose stated sullenly, after the doors and slid shut, in a matter of seconds they were on deck five and were stumbling down the corridor toward Sickbay.
After a few tense moments, they entered Sickbay and she glanced around at all the casualties as she took Annika over to one of the biobeds and helped her sit down on it. The EMH was running around, all alone. That’s when she saw Harry, unconscious on a nearby biobed, the arch extended over his body. Tears filled her eyes as she stumbled to his side, grabbing the side of the bed for support once she got there; he looked so peaceful, even if he was injured. She hadn’t known him that long, but they had grown close during the time she’d been alive-he was her best friend, her confidante and it pained her to see him like this. “Harry,” she whispered as she brushed some hair off his forehead, “if you can hear me, hang in there.”
“Rose,” the EMH asked as he worked on stopping the internal bleeding on a young Ensign, “grab a tricorder and begin triage.” Rose nodded as she began to go through the motions of everything she’d been taught.
The battle seemed to last forever, but Voyager eventually won out in the end; how, Rose didn’t know as she was in Sickbay, but she did know when the pummeling stopped and the blaring red alert went off. “Finally,” she whispered as she finished up on a Lieutenant. By this time, Annika had been healed and been sent back to duty, as had a lot of the crewmen who hadn’t been severely injured; now only a handful of severely injured patients were there.
“Rose to the Bridge,” she said as she tapped her commbadge.
“Bridge here,” her father’s voice came.
“Did we succeed?”
“Yes, the sphere is destroyed. Prepare for another influx of casualties down there. I’m going to need the two of you working round the clock till we make it to Deep Space 9,” her father stated. Rose glanced at the EMH; he could function on no sleep but not her. “I’m sending Tom down to relieve you after he’s done here. You’ll work in rotating shifts,” her father said again.
“Aye, sir,” she said softly as she sighed and the communication was cut.
“And to think,” the EMH said with a strained smile, trying to crack a joke, “you’re not even officially part of the crew yet.” Rose gave a forced smile, that faded just as quickly as it had showed, then went back to work.
After about 45 minutes, the USS Voyager docked with Deep Space Nine and the crew began to vacate for repairs; a skeleton crew aboard Voyager would rotate with a maintenance crew from DS9 to get it complete-all in all, it would take at least 5 days in dock before it would be space worthy again. All the crew that was still injured aboard Voyager was transferred to the Sickbay aboard the space station. The deep space stations are a crossroads for the space faring traveler, where they could get food, drink and relax-assuming they could steer clear of the Ferengi, who were always up to something to make their next big buck.
Before Rose left Voyager, for her shore leave (if you could even really call it that), she studied up on Deep Space 9; she read the schematics, about the various races that went there, she even read about the various places to go aboard it. ‘Best to be prepared,’ she thought as she set the PADD down in her lap and leaned back in her chair. Since the injured had been transferred to DS9, she was resting in her room. The door chimed and she sat up, “come!”
The doors opened and in walked Anna, her adopted sister; Anna had long, dark brown hair and eyes that were so blue, you felt like you’d drown in the depths of them. “Rose! Oh my God! Have you read about this place?! I mean, it looks like the most fun we could get into!” Anna was beaming with enthusiasm because, just like her, she felt caged on the vessel.
“It’s still only a 5 day reprieve,” Rose responded back despondently, “we’ll be back aboard Voyager and trekking through interstellar space once more.” She leaned forward and set the PADD upon her desk as her jade hues met her sister’s cerulean ones.
“Oh, come on you, gloomy Gus,” Anna muttered as she ran up and grabbed Rose’s arm, “let’s go turn that frown upside down.”
Rose glanced down at her sister’s hand then allowed her to pull her out of her seat and toward the doors. “Fine,” she answered then looked at her sister. “How is it you’re always so bubbly?” Anna just grinned at her then dragged her through the ship to the transporter room, where they beamed aboard Deep Space 9.
“Welcome to Deep Space 9, ladies,” an attractive, young ensign said to them, his eyes lingering on Rose. “If there’s anything I can help you with, just let me know.”
Both women smiled at him but Anna noticed the guy’s attention was primarily on Rose. Turning to Rose, Anna said, “I’ll see you soon. I have a tennis match in one of the holodecks against Ensign Lynch. See you!” Anna waved goodbye as she ran out of the transporter room’s doors, leaving Rose with the striking Ensign.
Slowly Rose turned her attention toward him, forcing a smile and pretending she was looking forward to all of this. “Well, do you do tours?” The Ensign nodded. “Think you could show me around?” The Ensign nodded again, holding his arm out for her. She had to hold back from groaning as she linked her arm with his and he led her out into the bowels of DS9. Oh what she would give to be free from all of this same old routine, every single day. Even though she wasn’t on Voyager, she had been to space stations before and they were always the same-nothing changed. Where was the adventure? The passion? She wanted to live, not be trapped with the same people in the same places.
“You ok?” he finally asked after a while of no talking; she hadn’t even been listening to anything he said about the station-she already read about it all.
“Huh?” she asked, shaking herself out of her distracted state.
The Ensign picked up on it easily. “I know what you need, come with me,” he said as they made a u-turn in the corridor and headed back the other direction. “I’m taking you to Quark’s Bar, I’m sure he’s got something there to help you feel better.”
Great, now he’s taking her to a bar. What’s next? He’s going to put the moves on her? She sighed and nodded though, not wanting to argue, as a nice, stiff drink sounded really good right then. She followed him into Quark’s Bar, where the music was loud but the people were louder; this actually caused the brooding blonde to smile. “You should do that more often,” the Ensign said to her, making her gaze at him, “it suits you.” She smiled again as he led her up to the bar and they both took stools next to each other. “2 Romulan Ales,” he said to Quark.
“Don’t have any of that here,” Quark responded quickly as he looked around for Odo, the chief of security.
“Bull,” the Ensign said as he laid some gold-pressed latinum upon the bar. Quark’s eyes widened, as he licked his lips-the Ferengi were a greedy species, always looking for their next big break however, most would swindle those they did business with. “2 Romulan Ales, or no latinum.”
Quark met his gaze then disappeared for a minute, coming back with two glasses. “Here, here’s your ale. Now give me my latinum,” he said as he tried to grab it but, the Ensign pulled it away, trying his drink first. After an approving nod, he released the latinum, which Quark covetously snatched up and disappeared to count.
She chuckled at the sight, shaking her head gently as she lifted the glass then took a sip; she gagged at the taste, at first, pounding her hand on the bartop as the Ensign laughed. “Must be your first time,” he said as he smiled at her. She smiled and nodded back, taking a sip of it.
About halfway through her glass of Romulan Ale, she finally began speaking; the illegal alcohol finally finding its way through her synapses. “How do you do it?” she asked out of the blue, “being in space…it’s like we’re floating on a life raft in the middle of the damn ocean, barely able to hang on.”
“I don’t know,” he said as he took a sip of his drink; he was drinking his, a lot slower than her, “space travel isn’t for everyone, though. Maybe you’re just one of those people?”
“No,” she responded, “I was born aboard Voyager. It’s all I know.”
“Ah,” he said with a nod, “that’s your problem right there.”
“What is?” she asked quixotically as she took another drink of her ale.
“You’ve never been off Voyager till now.”
“No,” she corrected, “I’ve been off Voyager plenty of times; it’s just…different planets, or not, it all feels the same. Plus, I want adventure, danger…not to be cooped up…” she faltered as she went to take another drink of her ale, only to find it empty.
“Here,” he said, as he called Quark over for another. Quark replaced the drink and the Ensign paid, then turned back to her. “As you were saying?”
She took a drink of her new glass of ale, then laughed gently, “I was saying that I wish I wasn’t on this damn spaceship anymore. I was saying that I wish I was anywhere, anytime, but here. This place is nothing but vacuums, nebulas and storms.” She didn’t even want to mention the fact that everywhere she went, it seemed the Borg Queen was always right there waiting for her.
“Anything else?” the Ensign asked. And, for the first time, she looked up at him and noted his dark brown eyes and dark, shaggy brown hair; very handsome with his slightly muscular build and his lips... Jade hues lingered on his lips for a moment before averting back to his eyes; she had just realized how lonely she truly was. “Rose? Anything else?”
She stopped, mystification taking her over, “how do you know my name?”
He laughed, “you told me, remember?” She shook her head slowly. “Yeah, you told me. Wow, you must really have had too much to drink, if you’re already forgetting things.”
“…yeah…” she said in a low whisper, still bewildered; she didn’t feel drunk but, how would she know? She’d never been drunk before. “Yeah,” she said louder, agreeing with him, “I must have. Oh well.” She took another drink of her Ale.
The pair laughed as he inched closer to her, she stopped what she was doing and looked at him, her heart feeling like it was skipping beats. “Do you really wish all of that? I mean, you should be careful what you wish for.”
She rolled her eyes, “oh please, don’t start with that crap. I can wish to my heart’s content but, I know, nothing will ever come of it.” And, as if tempting fate, she leaned toward him with a conspiratorial whisper. “I could sell my soul and it still would never happen.
He smiled at her, “are you sure?”
“Positive,” she said as she leaned back and finished off her second glass of ale. “I would sell my soul, if it meant I could be anywhere else but here, going through the same monotonous routine every single day. There has to be more to life than all of this.”
“If you wish it,” he said as he turned to face her completely, as leaned over and whispered in her ear, “you have one year.”
She laughed at him, pushing him away slightly, not believing a single word he had uttered, “a year, huh? That’s the joke here? I have one year…to do what?” She turned her gaze to his face, but his eyes were closed. “Hello?” she said as she waved her hand in front of his face, “are you going to answer me?”
The young Ensign’s eyes opened and Rose took in the change of them; instead of the dark brown they had been, they were red. Rose gasped, rising so quickly from the stool that it toppled over. Her mouth dropped open as if she’d scream, but no sound came out as the Ensign moved toward her and kissed her. She melted into the breathtaking kiss, totally forgetting about the change of his eye color-figuring she was seeing things because she was drunk.
When she opened her eyes, the man was gone and she looked around-she was back in her quarters aboard Voyager. Perplexed, she looked down to find she was wearing her emerald green nightgown. Had she drank too much and wandered back to her quarters? The last thing she remembered was kissing the handsome ensign. Could she have imagined it all? She shook her head as she lay down upon her bed and closed her eyes. Her dreams were full of terror and dread, as she saw flames and people screaming around her; the screams were horrible, as if people were being tortured.
When she finally opened her eyes, she found herself in a small white room, the walls were padded and she was lying on a mat upon the floor. She looked down at herself, noticing she was in loose fitting white pants and a white shirt. What happened to her? Was she still dreaming? She glanced up to a door that had a single rectangular window on it. Rising up from the mat she walked over to it and tried to open it-it was locked. “Hey!” she began pounding on it. “Tom? Harry? Is this some sick joke?!” She figured they had her in the holdoeck. “Computer! End program!” She shouted, but nothing happened. “Computer! I said end program!” Still nothing. Green eyes became frightened as she wondered where she was.
